Thailand May Not Lack People Who Want Children — It May Lack Opportunities for the Right People to Meet.
The Hidden Crisis of Successful Singles: Stable Careers, Financial Security, but No Opportunity to Meet the Right Partner
Thailand is facing a significant demographic challenge as birth rates continue to decline and the country rapidly transitions into an aging society.
While public discussions often focus on economic concerns and the rising costs of raising children, Bangkok Matching, one of Thailand’s leading premium matchmaking firms, believes another important factor receives far less attention: Many people who want marriage and children simply cannot find the right life partner in time.

According to data collected from Bangkok Matching’s clients:
- More than 90% are business owners, investors, executives, physicians, and professionals.
- The largest client group is between 35 and 49 years old.
- The second largest group is between 27 and 34 years old.
- 89% are seeking a long-term life partner.
- 85% of never-married clients still wish to have children in the future.
- 50% of previously married clients would like to have additional children.
- 90% report having insufficient time to meet new people on their own.
- 80% have previously used dating applications.
According to Bangkok Matching founder and CEO, Kulchulee “Bee” Subsinudom Nylander, these figures suggest that many Thais still want love, marriage, and family life.
“Many Thais do not lack the desire to have children.”
“What they increasingly lack is the opportunity to find the right partner early enough.”
The company reports that many clients begin their serious search for a life partner between the ages of 35 and 45. However, finding a compatible match may take several years.
As a result, by the time they are ready to marry and start a family, biological factors may significantly reduce their reproductive options.
“We see many cases where the issue is not a lack of desire for children,”
“but rather finding a suitable partner too late.”
“By the time they meet the right person, having children has become considerably more difficult. Some couples require fertility treatments, while others are unable to have children despite wanting them.”
Why Dating Apps Are Not Solving the Problem
Interviews with Bangkok Matching clients indicate that approximately 80% have previously used dating applications.
However, many report frustrations including:
- Users who are not genuinely seeking serious relationships
- Unanswered messages and ghosting
- Misrepresentation of personal information
- Encounters with scammers and fraudulent accounts
“Many of our clients tell us they do not lack people to talk to,”
“they lack people who are genuinely serious.”
“For entrepreneurs and executives especially, time is their most valuable resource. They do not want to spend years navigating trial-and-error relationships.”
A Missing Piece in Thailand’s Family Policy Discussion
Over the years, the Thai government has introduced various measures to support childbirth and family formation, including:
- Child support subsidies
- Tax deductions related to children and childbirth
- Social Security benefits for childbirth and child support
- Fertility treatment support through Thailand’s National Health Security Office
These policies play an important role in helping Thai families.
However, Bangkok Matching argues that most existing measures begin only after individuals have already found a partner, become pregnant, or started a family. Far less attention has been given to helping single adults meet compatible partners in the first place.
Possible Policy Solutions
Bangkok Matching suggests that Thailand consider additional initiatives aimed at addressing the relationship formation stage, including:
- Supporting high-quality singles events and networking activities
- Building nationwide communities for singles
- Promoting work-life balance to allow more time for relationship building
- Providing relationship and family education
- Supporting private-sector initiatives that facilitate safe and meaningful introductions between singles
“Before people can have children, they need a partner.”
“Before they can find a partner, they need opportunities to meet compatible people.”
“Thailand may not lack people who want to get married.”
“Thailand may not lack people who want children.”
“But Thailand increasingly has many people who cannot find the right partner soon enough.”
